Acai’ Super Smoothie

When it comes to training the most important thing often overlooked and neglected is eating a healthy diet.  Eating healthy or as I prefer to say, “eating clean” gives your body the fuel need for intense training, helps with recovery, reduces body inflammation, while boosting your immune system.  One of my absolute favorite meals is what I call the “Acai’ Super Smoothie”.  This smoothie is packed with fresh, raw vegetables, fruits, nuts, and honey.  The nutrients from this smoothie usually give me enough energy to go 6-10 hours between meals.  The acai’ super smoothie doesn’t pass the Gracie diet food combination rules, however Grand Master Relson Gracie gave me a pass on the recipe and personally approved it.  The acai’ super smoothie is Paleo, gluten free and mostly raw foods.  I also recommend going with organic ingredients whenever possible.

To make this acai smoothie I strongly recommend having a good blender, like a Vitamix, Bledtec, or Ninja.  I’ve used all three blender brands and I personally prefer the Vitamix.  The Ninja is the least expensive, but I found the blades dull after a few months of use and will leave chunks of ingredients in the smoothie unblended.  The Bledtec is the most powerful blender I’ve ever used but it often builds up an air pocket between the blades and ingredients.  It becomes frustrating having to shut off the blender and shake the container to get rid of the air pocket.  The Vitamix (Model 750) has the largest container, is easy to use, clean, and provided me with the best smoothie consistency time after time.  I use this blender nearly every day and it lives up to the hype.  With a lifetime warranty, it will be the last blender you’ll ever buy, so to me it’s worth the cost.

You can modify or change ingredients to your personal taste, but here is how I normally make the Acai Super Smoothie:

Fresh or Pressed Apple Juice – 16-20 ounces

Kale – 5-7 leaves

Spinach – 1 handful

Pineapple – 1 cup

Blueberries – 1 handful

Strawberries – 1 – cup

Raw Walnuts – 1 to 2 handfuls

Raw Honey – 2 to 4 Tablespoons

Acai’ – 3 or 4 frozen packs

Blend ingredients and enjoy!
