Unless invited by an instructor, Calvert MMA Academy – Lineage BJJ’s Advanced Gracie Jiu-Jitsu program is open to all blue belts students or higher rank. In the advanced Gracie Jiu-Jitsu program, students will learn Grand Master Relson Gracie’s style of Jiu-Jitsu. In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competition, Relson’s record is unprecedented and unmatched to this day. Relson Gracie was the Brazilian National Champion for 22 years straight. Relson would compete in his weight class and in the absolute division (open weight class). In addition to being the National Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Champion for 22 years, Grand Master Relson Gracie competed for a total of 26 years undefeated before retiring from competition. Relson Gracie’s style of Jiu-Jitsu is very basic, simple, effective and works well for both BJJ competitions, and Vale Tudo (no rules fighting)/MMA. Relson’s style of Jiu-Jitsu also translates perfect to street self-defense situations. Unlike Jiu-Jitsu schools which rely on flashy sport competition techniques, Relson’s techniques work on and off the mats, which means you won’t waste time practicing techniques that will not work on the streets in a self-defense situation.
Just like the original Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Brazil, our program, Team Relson Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Maryland – Lineage BJJ, has approximately 600 core techniques, plus another 130 self-defense techniques. In order to earn a black belt in our system, a student must master all of these techniques. Grand Master Relson Gracie personally test all students for the rank of black belt and for each degree promotion as a black belt.
