What makes the Calvert MMA Academy – Lineage BJJ different from many other martial arts school is the Gracie Self-Defense program we teach. With the popularity of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competitions, submission grappling tournaments, and mixed martial arts events, many have forgotten why Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was created. Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was created as a means of self-defense and survival in life threatening situations, allowing a smaller, weaker individual to overcome an attack from a larger and stronger attacker. Helio Gracie spent his life developing and refining the self-defense techniques of Jiu-Jitsu to be effect in real life situations. Through the use of technique, timing, and leverage men, woman, children of all ages, shapes, sizes, and athletic ability can defend themselves with maximum efficiency and minimal effort thought.
