Three Things Everyone Needs To Know When Choosing A Martial Arts School
Prior to 1961, the Gracie Brothers (Carlos, Gastão, George, Oswaldo, and Hélio Gracie) wore navy blue belts while all students wore white belts. In the 1961-62 timeframe, the first color belt system was introduced in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. The original belt system devised by the Gracie Brothers was the following: Jiu-Jitsu students under 16 years of age, belt colors where white, yellow, orange and green. Youth belts also received up to three degrees on each belt color.
