Southern Maryland’s Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Program for Ages 3–4

If your child is 3 or 4 years old, the Mat Munchkins program at Calvert MMA Academy® offers a fun, structured introduction to movement, confidence, focus, and discipline through age-appropriate Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Located in Sunderland, Maryland, our academy is known throughout Southern Maryland for authentic instruction, a positive training environment, and programs designed to help kids grow on and off the mat.

Because classes are intentionally kept very small, the Mat Munchkins program is popular and often has a wait-list.

Parents interested in the program should contact the academy to join the wait-list.

When a space becomes available, families are invited to schedule a Mat Munchkins Readiness Visit to make sure the program is the right fit for their child.

What Is Mat Munchkins?

Mat Munchkins is a specialized Gracie Jiu-Jitsu program designed specifically for 3- and 4-year-olds.

At this age, the goal is not competition or advanced techniques. The focus is on building a strong foundation through movement, structure, and positive coaching.

Children develop:

Classes combine movement games, simple drills, and beginner-friendly Gracie Jiu-Jitsu concepts that support both martial arts development and school readiness.

Programs are offered at both of our Southern Maryland locations:

Calvert MMA Academy® — Sunderland, MD
Lineage BJJ® — California, MD

Because class sizes are intentionally small, students normally attend only the location where they enroll unless staff approval is given.

Mat Munchkins classes are intentionally limited so each child receives the attention, structure, and encouragement they need.

This helps us maintain a safe, positive learning environment while allowing instructors to work closely with every student.

Because of these small class sizes, wait-lists are common and new openings are limited.

Because Mat Munchkins has limited class sizes, enrollment follows a simple process:

Contact the academy to add your child to the Mat Munchkins wait-list.

2. Schedule a Readiness Visit

When space becomes available, families are invited to schedule a:

This short introductory visit helps our instructors determine whether the program is the right fit for your child.

3. Secure Your Spot

If the program is a good fit, families may enroll and reserve the available class position.
